Flamenco and SciFi

Last night, we went to Chapel Arts to see a flamenco troupe. Queuing to get in, stopped by this sign - first time I've seen "film crews" as a reason for a parking suspension notice.
As the performance took place in an Arts Centre, I couldn't make my mind up if this was an artistic statement (interesting patterns), or simply sloppy housekeeping.
The performance was by Azabache, a company based in Malaga doing a mini-tour of Cardiff, Bath and Wrington.  They were excellent, high energy and very entertaining. This was the best photo my iPhone could manage.
This morning, met up with a former student at Prior Park Garden Centre to discuss life, the Universe and everything over coffee.  Also managed to pick up a couple of their free tomato plants (they advertised a glut on their website).
Out with Bella this afternoon, the weather turned grey and drizzly but still lots to see - valerian rampant.
A splash of blue from these cornflowers.
Campanula tumbling over a garden wall.
A memorial to a much-loved cat.
Tomato plants that I might have bought if Prior Park hadn't supplied us already.
Another garage being used to put a car in - almost. The Restored Hillman Minx being charged up.
24 railway sleepers and a cement mixer - sounds like a music-making opportunity for Claudia at the Sunrise Cafe on Symi.
Walking in the fields and then back up the hill to our house, lots of flowers to be seen…
The grasses are impressive at the moment as well.
 Another grass head.
Red clover (good for bumble bees)
The remains of flowers on a mallus tree.
Two garages successfully sold - I wonder if they will ever have cars inside them…
Flag irises in full bloom.
Seed heads looking very decorative.
I've never seen this make of drink before - but now I've crossed it…
This evening saw us going back down to the Little Theatre once more - for our third film in five days. Walked past the closed off street being used for filming, here with an historic carriage.
The horse that had been pulling the carriage, I presume.
We came to see "Prometheus" (in 2D). A visually spectacular film, and pretty enjoyable with Noomi Rapace being as feisty as she was in "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" series. As with most SciFi, the plot required some suspension of disbelief, but a couple of hours well spent.
Afterwards we wandered around the now deserted (aprt from one security person) film set - this is the side of BhS
More historical ephemera (the filming is for a three-part children's story, apparently).
This places in firmly in Victorian times.
This is just along from the shopping centre.
The ATMs outside this branch of Santander were disguised by a wooden screen covered in handbills and posters.
A bit of set dressing right next to the very modern Bath Spa. Camera angles are all!
Danger! Film makers on the loose!
The Spa shop which cycles the colour of the display from red through green, blue and purple.
This day a year ago, I attended my last Design Show at the Faculty. This was the effect on Martyn Harries and myself of listening to our Dean's rather rambling and quite loved-up speech - we were waiting for a sandwich!

  1. I was worried when seeing the street being closed for filming as we had to pack up the FAB art show. It worked in our favour however as it meant unusually there were spaces next to the Roman Baths. That plus a friendly film official!
